Lester Polk
From within the confines of prison, Lester has become a prolific poet, using his words to explore themes of transformation, accountability, and hope. His poetry captures the emotional depth of his experiences and offers a voice to those often unheard. In addition to his written works, Lester participated in a radio interview where he shared his journey of Restorative Justice with Cheryl, highlighting the potential for healing even in the most challenging circumstances.
Lester is currently channeling his creativity into the performing arts, working on a musical theater piece in collaboration with Ani DiFranco, Kenyatta Hughes, and Zoe Boekbinder. This project reflects his dedication to storytelling as a tool for connection and advocacy, showcasing the power of art to inspire social change. Through his creative works, Lester demonstrates that even in the most adverse conditions, the human spirit has the capacity to grow, create, and impact the world.
Restorative Justice
A native of Oakland, California, Lester has been incarcerated since the age of 18 following his involvement in a home invasion that caused significant harm. During his incarceration, Lester embarked on a profound journey of personal growth and accountability through a Restorative Justice process. This transformative experience led to a deep and meaningful connection with Cheryl Ward Kaiser, one of the survivors of the incident. Their bond has grown into a powerful partnership, with Cheryl now advocating for Lester’s release and sharing their story of healing and reconciliation with the world.
